I love ponds. And everything that goes with them. Frogs, fish, and many unique types of aquatic plants. I even have a pond themed tattoo!
I was fortunate enough to be able to create a pond in my own backyard a few years ago and have spent the past several seasons learning, diligently maintaining it and making incremental improvements to the ecosystem so that it has become relatively self-sustaining for much of the season.
I can’t wait to see new tadpoles and fish fry each year as well seeing a huge variety of birds use the stream and waterfall to bathe and drink. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you’ll see lots of stories about it.
It brings me so much joy and happiness that I’d like to begin offering backyard pond maintenance as one of my services in order to help you experience those same feelings (only with less work on your part).
My pond maintenance services:
-Overall ecosystem evaluation. Involves looking at things pump sizing, filtration levels, fish load, plant selection, direct sunlight exposure amounts, as well as discussing your goals for your pond.
-Spring openings (reconnect filter and pump)
-Fall closing & winter prep (cutting back plants, disconnecting pump and filter, ensuring aeration, heater installation)
-Filter backwashing and cleaning
-Water plant maintenance & growth control
-Plant selection changes to support water filtration and clarity
-Algae management
-Light pond construction, modification & repairs
-Filter and pump maintenance
Every pond needs varying levels of attention in order to keep in balance and this may change depending on the type of weather we are experiencing. I work across Kitchener-Waterloo every week and so we can determine a visit frequency that works for you and your pond.
If you have a backyard pond that you’re looking for help with please get in touch! I’d love to chat with you about what I can do for you.
