I love ponds. And everything that goes with them. Frogs, fish, and many unique types of aquatic plants. I even have a pond themed tattoo!

I’d love to put my enthusiasm and knowledge of pond ecology to use in keeping your backyard pond at its best. Whether you have a small urban water feature or a large koi pond, I will provide the expert care needed to keep your ecosystem thriving and your water clear.

My pond maintenance service offering:

- Overall ecosystem evaluation. Involves looking at things like pump sizing, filtration levels, fish load, plant selection, direct sunlight exposure, as well as discussing your goals for your pond.

-Spring openings
This generally involves: removing aerator and heater, reconnecting filter and pumps, removing leaves and debris from pond, plus anything else that is needed

-Fall closing & winter prep
This generally includes: cutting back pond plants, removing tropicals, leaf protection (usually via installing netting over the pond) and leaf removal, disconnecting pump and filter, installing aerator and heater, plus anything else that is needed

-In season pond maintenance
This generally includes: Regular filter backwashing and cleaning, water plant maintenance & growth control, algae and green water management (as needed), regular dosing of pond treatments such as beneficial bacteria, light pond construction, modification & repairs, plus anything else that is needed

-Leak diagnoses
Is your pond losing water? I’ll locate the source of the leak and get your pond running properly again

-Pond rehabilitation
Has your pond been neglected or did you inherit one from a previous owner? I can get things cleaned up and your pond back to its best.

-Pond "beautification" and wildlife friendly planting
I wasn't sure how to describe this but essentially this is looking at the plant mix both in and out of the water and making changes add to the overall aesthetic as well as serve local wildlife. Examples might be putting a in a dense planting of something like Mare's Tail for frogs to hide in or adding cone flowers near the edge of the water for dragonflies to perch on.

Every pond needs varying levels of attention in order to keep in balance and this may vary from season to season depending on the weather conditions that we receive. For some this may be regular weekly visits, for others it may be only a spring opening visit, a midseason check-in, and a fall closing. I work across Kitchener-Waterloo every week and so we can determine a visit frequency that works for you and your pond.

If you have a backyard pond that you’re looking for help with please get in touch! I’d love to chat with you about what I can do for you.
